Lokar is renowned for our outstanding safety features. Our Safety Lock-Out button prevents accidental shifting into reverse by fully locking in both Park and Neutral. The lock-out system is designed so that the shifter cannot be accidentally bumped into gear. You must fully depress the button to get the shifter out of Park or Neutral. The Sport Mode Shifter also features an exclusive Neutral Safety Switch design that is both reliable and completely integrated into the body of the shifter.

Our Electronic Sport Mode Shifter works with the most popular Ford and GM electronically-controlled transmissions, including the GM 4L60E, 4L80, 6L80, and 6L90, as well as the Ford AODE / 4R70W and 6R80, without the need to use an OE style shifter or paddle shifter.

Our Electronic Sport Mode Shifter features a cable operated floor mount configuration that be mounted in practically any location. It can accommodate most obstructions while allowing for maximum customization and personalization of the shifter placement. This shifter also features durable 1/4” inner cable and spherical rod ends for superior reliability and safety.

When you purchase a Lokar Sport Mode Shifter, you can configure it any way you wish by choosing from a wide array of shift knobs to suit your individual taste. Lokar has always been known for their exclusive lock-out pushbutton shifters for safety and convenience, and that trend continues on with the Sport Mode Shifter. You can choose from any of our push-button shifter knobs and most are available in polished, brushed, or black finishes…the choice is yours.

Add most any style shifter lever to your Sport Mode Shifter, ranging from straight to single bend, double bend or even a bench bend shifter lever. Our shifter levers are manufactured from mild steel and are available in black Cerakote or chrome plated finishes. With our Sport Mode Shifter, you can choose your lever in 4”,6”,8”,10”,12” and 16” lengths providing the exact shifter knob placement.

Of course, when you purchase your new Sport Mode Shifter, all necessary hardware is included for a clean and smooth installation. The 4’ long control cable featuring a Teflon lined stainless steel construction with a durable nylon coating is included, as well as a neutral safety switch and detailed installation instructions. Combine this with your choice of a shifter lever and knob, and you’ll be good to go!

Our new Electronic Sport Mode Shifter is designed to work with most electronically controlled transmissions: GM 4L60E, 4L80, 6L80, and 6L90, as well as Ford AODE / 4R70W and 6R80. It is also compatible with most factory transmission controllers that are manual mode capable as well as many aftermarket transmission controllers such as those offered by Speartech, US Shift, TCI, Holley and many others.
Some transmission and controller combinations require Manual Mode to be accessed from “Drive” (Position 1), and others require Manual Mode to be accessed from a secondary “Sport” position (Position 2).
Your Electronic Sport Mode Shifter will come with the configuration that is most common for your specific transmission, but it can easily be converted to the other configuration if needed (Position conversion parts available from Lokar at no charge).

Just like every Lokar product, great care is taken to ensure everything fits together as it should. With precise machining and attention to every detail, you can rest assured your new sport mode shifter is a precision piece of equipment. For the components that we do not manufacture in-house, careful consideration is used in choosing a supplier to ensure every piece meets or exceeds our requirements, such as the integrated gear selector and neutral safety micro switches.

Q. How do I know which shifter I need?
A. You will order an ESS2 Shifter based upon the automatic transmission that you are using. After matching your transmission type to a base shifter part number, you will then select a shift lever and knob from the many options available.
Q. I am replacing an original ESS shifter with the new ESS2. Will the ESS2 bolt down using the original ESS mounting locations?
A. The mounting bolt pattern of the new ESS2 is very similar to, but not exactly like the bolt pattern of the original ESS. However, you may be able to use your original mounts with little or no modifications, depending upon how you mounted the original ESS shifter.
Q. Is Sport Mode Position OD or D?
A. For all four-speed transmissions (GM-4L, Ford-4R/AODe, etc.), the Sport Mode Position is preset to OverDrive (“Position 1”). For all six-speed (and higher) transmissions (GM-6L, Ford-6R, etc.), the Sport Mode Position is preset to Drive (“Position 2”). The GM six-speed (and higher) transmissions (GM-6L, etc.) come with the parts necessary for the customer to switch the Sport Mode Position of their transmission to OverDrive (“Position 1”) if needed. The Sport Mode Position of other applications can also be customer configured.
Q. Why is the ESS2 Shifter shipped “locked”?
A. Prior to installation and attachment of the shifter cable to the shifter and the transmission, if the ESS2 shifter is improperly actuated, it is possible to misalign the “timing” of internal gearing. If this occurs, contact our Technical Support Team for realignment instructions.
Q. After purchasing the ESS2 with a particular knob and lever, if I later decide to change over to a different knob and lever, is that something that I can install myself?
A. Yes, you will be able to change over to a different knob and lever at any time. However, prior to purchasing the new knob and lever, contact Lokar Technical Support for assistance. The manual shift mechanism of the ESS2 shifter utilizes specific return springs and return spring preload settings depending upon the lever and knob that you choose. Our Technical Support Team can assist you in obtaining the proper hardware and instructions for performing this changeover.
Q. How much electrical current can the ESS2 switches handle?
A. Lokar recommends that the current running through the onboard switches be less than 3A @12V DC. For higher current loading, Lokar recommends using a relay.
